Week 1 Guest Lecturer: Tamar Weinberg

Our online lecturer for the week was Tamar Weinberg, author of our class’ textbook, The New Community Rules: Marketing on the Social Web. Tamar is an Internet marketing consultant and manages community support and advertising for Mashable, the authoritative site on social media. Her blog is Techipedia, which includes a post for the ages (literally), “6 Things Parenthood Taught Me About Social Media Marketing.”

It’s no exaggeration to consider Tamar’s book, The New Community Rules…, a bible for social media (if you can’t relate to using print communication to learn about Web 2.0, you can order it on Kindle). After diving into the assigned reading, it was exciting to find out the author was the guest lecturer for Week 1. It underscored the “community” inherent in social media to have Tamar herself be a part of our class.

During our asynchronous Q&A with Tamar, we discussed measuring ROI of social media, monetizing social media, and the role hardware choices play in targeting social media demographics. Thank you for joining us, Tamar. You will always be with us in spirit as we work from your remarkable book throughout the course.
